License Renewal Requirements for Physical Therapists + Physical Therapy Assistants
The following course(s) are rule approved by the Florida Board of Physical Therapy and meet the Continuing Education requirements for PTs and PTAs in accordance with the Florida Administrative Code (64B17-9).
Florida Board of Physical Therapy uses CE Broker – continuing education system to find, track, and report continuing education to the board. Take our course(s) or seminars and we will automatically report your continuing education hours once you receive your Certificate of Completion.
Current licenses expire at midnight, Eastern Time, on November 30, 2025.
Every person licensed pursuant to Chapter 486, F.S., shall be required to complete twenty-four contact hours of continuing education courses approved by the Board in the twenty-four months preceding each biennial renewal period as established by the Department. With the exception of the required courses in the prevention of medical errors and HIV/AIDS, applicants who become licensed in the second half of the biennium are exempt from this continuing education requirement for their first renewal.
Ten contact hours, also referred to as CE Hours (CEH), constitute one continuing education unit (CEU).
For each biennial renewal period, physical therapists must complete 24 contact hours of continuing education.
For each biennial renewal period, physical therapist assistants must complete 24 contact hours of continuing education.

Twenty-four (24) contact hours of continuing education (CE/CEU*) must be completed within the current biennium for which the license is being renewed. (Bienniums run from 12/1/odd year-11/30/next odd year. For example, 12/1/2013 – 11/30/2015 is a licensure biennium).
Continuing Education Unit (CEU): One continuing educational unit shall be considered equivalent to 10 contact hours. You must complete 24 contact hours of approved continuing education per biennium.
No more than 12 hours may come from home study courses. All licensees must complete 2 hours on the Prevention of Medical Errors for each licensure renewal cycle.
Licenses issued in the second half of the biennium are exempt from the renewal requirements with the exception of 2 hours of Prevention of Medical Errors and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS
