License Renewal Requirements for Physical Therapists + Physical Therapy Assistants
The following course(s) are inline with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation standards and meet the continuing education requirements for PTs and PTAs for continuing education activities in accordance with the Illinois Physical Therapy Act (Section 1340.61).
In order to renew a license, a licensee is required to complete the following number of hours of continuing education per pre-renewal period. A pre-renewal period is 24 months preceding September 30 in the year of the renewal.
Every physical therapist shall complete 40 hours of CE relevant to the practice of physical therapy during each pre-renewal period as a condition of renewal.
Every physical therapist assistant shall complete 20 hours of CE relevant to the practice of physical therapy during each pre-renewal period as a condition of renewal.
In order to renew a license, a licensee is required to complete a predetermined number of hours of continuing education per pre-renewal period. A pre-renewal period is 24 months preceding September 30 in the year of the renewal.
An applicant may obtain 75% of his or her total CE credit by taking correspondence, or web-based courses, including pre-recorded professional presentations and pre-recorded webinars, from an approved CE sponsor.
