License Renewal Requirements for Physical Therapists + Physical Therapy Assistants
The following courses are recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Division of Occupational Licensure Board of Registration of Allied Health Professions and meet the Continuing Competency requirements for PTs and PTAs for continuing education activities in accordance with the Code of Massachusetts Regulations (Regulation 259 CMR 7.00).
Licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are required, as a condition of license renewal, to complete a minimum of 24 points of Board recognized activities for maintaining continuing competence during the preceding biennial renewal period.
For each biennial renewal, physical therapists must complete a total of 24 continuing competence points (CCPs)

Effective: September 1, 2022
On April 29, 2022, the Board of Registration of Allied Health Professions promulgated regulations requiring continuing competency activities as a prerequisite to licensure renewal. The Board will begin enforcing these requirements beginning with renewals due in September 2022.
Licensees who must renew before September 1, 2022 or were licensed by examination (not reciprocity) and are renewing for the first time are exempt from any continuing competence requirements for this renewal cycle.
