License Renewal Requirements for Physical Therapists + Physical Therapy Assistants
The following course are approved by rule established by the Oregon Board of Physical Therapy and meet the continuing competence requirements for PTs and PTAs in accordance with the Oregon Administrative Rule 848 Division 35.
The current continuing competency requirement in Oregon will be due on March 31, 2026.
How many units of CC you need to complete depends on the effective date of your current license. This date is printed on your license, or you can look up your record via the license lookup tool. Then, just determine where your effective date falls in the table below to determine how many units you will need to complete.

A licensed physical therapist shall earn 24 hours of continuing competence for each compliance period to be eligible for license renewal.
A certified physical therapist assistant shall earn 24 hours of continuing competence for each compliance period to be eligible for certificate renewal.
Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants who are licensed in Oregon are required to complete Continuing Competency (CC) to renew their license.
The Continuing Competency Certification Period runs from April 1 of an even year to March 31 of the following even year- this coincides with the licensure period. Continuing Competency Activities must be completed within this period in order to renew.
